Chitubu is beautifully located in the Sinamatella area of the park. The main area, where meals
are served and evenings can be spent around the camp fire, is comfortable and welcoming. Both
the main area and the rooms are located on raised ground overlooking a waterhole where all
kinds of mammals can and frequently do drink. Bathrooms include pleasant showers and flush
toilets.
A significant bonus of this camp is that it is located just 2km from Mandavu Dam – the largest
body of water in Hwange. Mandavu attracts all kinds of animals, and has seen herds of buffalo of
well over 1,000 head. Lion are often seen in this area, and almost invariably heard. Elephant and
hippo are plentiful, and other common sightings include impala, kudu, waterbuck, warthogs,
giraffe, hyena, jackal, and zebra. More elusive, but also seen by the fortunate, can be wild dog,
leopard, cheetah, serval and roan, eland and sable. Bird spotting is excellent, with Mandavu
acting as a magnet for Fish Eagles and Kingfishers.
Activities are land based, with a focus on drives in the camp vehicles.
