It’s said Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania can get more tourists in an hour than Liuwa gets in a year. One of Africa’s undiscovered gems, Liuwa is recovering strongly from the poaching of decades ago. With herds of blue wildebeest – numbering tens of thousands – Liuwa hosts Africa’s second biggest migration.
The area is also a bird watchers’ paradise, with over 320 species confirmed, and more expected. Liuwa is neither easy nor cheap to get to, or stay in. But the rewards are boundless as one gets to join the very small club of people who have enjoyed this remote, exotic and largely undiscovered corner of Africa.
