Overview

Vast, awe-inspiring, soul-cleansing, and life-changing: these are some terms people have used to describe the Botswanan Kalahari. From the scenically stunning Makgadikgadi Pans, to the immensity of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR), to the rarely visited remoteness of North West Kalahari – journeys to the Kalahari feel like trips to a place and time far removed from contemporary life.

Whilst there most certainly is big game and some fabulous birding to be experienced in the Kalahari, there is so much else besides – the star-scapes, the sunrises, the kaleidoscopic explosion of colour which flowers with the scarce rains; bizarre rock formations with ancient rock-paintings within them, which themselves echo the unique human history linked to this unique environment… welcome to a world like no other! Not many visitors make it to the Kalahari – but of those who do frequently return.
